| | July 02, 2008 | Comment about: The Homework Debate | | to put it bluntly: I hate homework | | I have homeschooled my kids ages 9 and 12 most of their school years. If I wanted to spend 4 hours a day doing homework why wouldn't I just homeschool them? So in short, if the teachers want to send homework home make it a short sheet giving examples of what the kids learned that day so I can review each concept for fact. Kids need to be kids as long as they can. Family time is so important and being a family life educator myself I see that families don't have enough time together doing fun things. Teacher's need to lay off the kids. They have nothing to prove and if you can't have them finish their work in the classroom then maybe you are giving them too much work. Kids don't fail only teachers do. Read The 7 Laws of the Learner by Bruce Wilkenson and you will see my point. And since I have been an educator most of my adult life, I am well aware that if my students fail at their tasks it's my fault. So don't take this personally but let's work together to change this homework thing. | |
